We are back to work on our castles & sunflowers!
We have one more rotation to go and will be moving on to another project at the beginning of November.

Before I search the thrift stores, I wanted to check with y'all.... Do you have an extra 6 hole cupcake tin you no longer want/need? It can be rusty & not food worthy. I'll just be putting condiment cups of paint in them.
It has officially been a year since I've been a part of the Franklin Academy family & I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know many new families as well as seeing many familiar faces from my previous teaching locations!
Last year's Square 1 Art project was a little rushed & unfortunately not every student brought back their artwork in time to be a part of the "free sticker club". That meant you weren't able to purchase items with your child's artwork to keep or give as gifts. So I intentionally began the projects early this year. I have to mail them out October 11th, so if I figured if I start at the beginning of September, I would have plenty of time! Well.... The hurricane came. And then we've had difficulties with an AC & I haven't been able to be in my room. Traveling with paint, brushes that need to be cleaned in between classes, water bowls that need to be empty & refilled, and sponges that need to be rinsed out into classrooms doesn't really work well. So now we are at crunch time & many students will not be able to finish painting their artwork in class! That's where Art Night comes into play! Your family can come and create artwork together, your child can finish their Square 1 Art project, and we get to hang out as a FABB-ily! In addition to Square 1 Art, students can work on their Sunflowers (3-5) or Castles (K-2), help with a mural, etc. I will continue working on Square 1 Art this week & even Monday, but I would love to see you Friday for Art Night! If you have any questions/thoughts/ideas, please let me know! As I'm sure you've heard, we have been displaced due to a broken A/C in the 4th/5th grade wing upstairs. In art, we have begun the drawing for the Square 1 Art fundraiser. Unfortunately we haven't been able to begin painting since I have to travel from classroom to classroom & don't have time to clean paint brushes & refill water buckets.
In an effort to make up some time, PTO & I have come up with an Art Night event for families to come create art together and finish up their artwork. I have to mail the artwork back to Square 1 on October 11th. Please come join us for a night together working on art projects! Hopefully everyone is cooling off & returning to some sort of normalcy after that storm! I hope everyone was safe & doesn't have too much recovery necessary. We had some water damage & loss of fence, but thankfully we were unharmed.
We are working on our artwork for Square 1 Art & will start the process for what will be sent in. Since I will be pushing into classes, we will only be able to draw our pictures and not begin painting them, but thankfully we will be press onward. If you haven't heard of Square 1 Art, check out the website: https://shop.square1art.com/shop/ We should receive the students free stickers & your access code by the end of October to begin shopping. As always, if you have any questions - let me know! :) Students in Kindergarten, 1st, & 2nd grade are drawing castles and adding patterns.
3rd, 4th, & 5th grade students are creating their own versions of Van Gogh's Sunflowers. On the next rotation, they will be painting them. I can't wait to show you the drawings that have been produced in each group! They are looking fantastic! Some students didn't have enough time to finish cutting out their picture, so I will finish those & then glue each groups picture onto a butcher piece of paper. They will then see them hanging up & be able to try and find themselves, their friends, & me in each group.
If you have any free time this week and want to get a service hour or two in, I'd love to have your help with cutting & gluing. Are you ready for a great year in art?? I'm so excited about new lessons we are going to create & all the art we are bringing to the school! It's going to be awesome!! I can't wait to see the kids again & get to know our new families! Our first class together will be spent going around the art room, seeing what's new, reviewing the expectations, and creating a drawing of ourselves. I will be creating a "Where's Waldo?" type mural with the artwork and hanging it in the hallways! Looking forward to a wonderful year with the FABB-ily! we were working on painted papers today. The students build on each other's painting for future projects.
