August 12 - 19:
Introduction to the Art Room. Practicing procedures & learning about supplies. We will be making our own marks after learning & reading "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds.
August 20 - September 20:
Students will be learning about Paul Cezanne. His paintings of food is our inspiration for the next few weeks.
Kindergarten, 1st, & 2nd graders will draw, paint, cut and paste apples, using the elements found in many of his still life paintings.
3rd, 4th, & 5th graders will study some still life paintings and learn about value, tint, & shade.
September 23 - 27:
Kindergarten, 1st, & 2nd graders began creating drawings focused on line, color, & pattern.
3rd, 4th, & 5th graders have worked on value in cats they drew.
October 1 - 28:
Students are working on their Square 1 Art Project
October 29 - December 10:
Kindergarten, 1st, & 2nd graders will continue their drawings focused on line, color, & pattern.
3rd, 4th, & 5th graders will continue working on value in cats they drew.
December 11 - January 21:
Kindergarten - 5th Grade are working on "The Art of Peace: A Global Vision of Peace by the World's Young People". Students will listen to the story "What Is Peace", reflect on what does a peaceful day look like in their own life, within our school/community, within our country, & between countries/cultures. Students will then draw, sharing their version of what is peace to them.
January 22 - 30:
Students will be sorting their artwork and organizing classes due to change in the rotation.
January 31 - February 10:
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. drawings/discussion
February 12- 21:
Students will be drawing a shape and then switching with another student. They will have to take the new shape they are given and turn it into a picture, creating an entire scene with one shape.
February 24 - March 3:
Read Across America. We will be working on Dr. Seuss illustrations.
March 4 - April 14:
Kindergarten, 1st, & 2nd grade will be creating butterfly paintings. We will discuss balance and symmetry and use it to create our drawings.
3rd, 4th, & 5th grade will be learning about Romero Britto. We will create pop art rendering and printmaking.
